Welcome to H.O.G. Stockholm Chapter Sweden #9850

When you are visiting our beautiful city, the capital of Sweden, don’t hesitate to contact us in advance before you arrive, and we will help and guide you the best we can. Especially if you want to go for a ride in the vicinity of Stockholm. During the bike season we use to arrange member rides every Saturday.

Stockholm is built on small islands where the lake “Mälaren” and the Baltic Sea connects. Wherever you’re going you will pass over a bridge or through a tunnel under the water.

The town Stockholm was established in the 13:th century.

Stockholm is divided into 4 areas; North, South, West and East. Each area with its specialities, charm and history. In the middle you find the Old Town with the Royal Palace, the royal treasuries and some of the smallest streets/alleys you have ever seen. Take your time, walk around, and try some of the restaurants where you sometimes can eat down in the middle ages basement where they used to store all kind of things in those days.

Some tips while you’re visiting our beautiful city:

-         The Royal Palace (there is also another palace “Drottningholm” just outside Stockholm protected as a UNESCO world heritage and where the Royal family lives)

-         Mårten Trotzigs Gränd in the Old Town, the narrowest alley you probably have ever seen

-         The German Church in the Old Town, really wonderful

-         Try the ice cream shop at Västerlånggatan

-         The National Gallery

-         The Museum of Modern Art

-         From Grand Hotêl you can take a steamboat out into the archipelago or a city touring boat. Then you will see some wonderful sites of Stockholm from the water.

-         The Opera

-         The “Dramaten” (Royal Dramatic Theatre) where some of our best actors started their career. Like Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo just to mention some of them.

-         Take a walk towards “Djurgården” along “Strandvägen” and face the most fancy apartments.

-         Coming to Djurgården (on an island too) you will find the famous “Wasa” ship museum, the funfair “Gröna Lund”, and “Skansen” where you can look at a collection of old Swedish houses. At “Skansen” there is also a zoo with local Scandinavian animals (like wolves, elks and bears).

-         On “Djurgården” you must go to “Rosendals Gardens” have a lunch and look at all the flowers and herbs they planted.

-         The street Fjällgatan (“Södermalm” - the South) has a wonderful view over the Old Town, the city, “Gröna Lund” and the old port of Stockholm. Looking down you will see the cruising ships that will take you over to Åland or Finland for a day or two cruise. Really something extraordinary to do. At Fjällgatan you will also find a nice café.

-         Being at “Södermalm” you can take a stroll to Katarina Kyrka (a church) that was totally burned down to the ground in the 1990th. It was rebuilt exactly the same way as it was.

-         Around these quarters you will find some old wooden houses and in the area you will find a lot of nice restaurants, bars and cafés.
